Amy Howe's Severance Package at FanDuel Larger Than Reported
Details of Amy Howe's exit package reveal a potential value of $21.2 million, far exceeding initial estimates.

Former FanDuel CEO Amy Howe received a severance package significantly larger than initially reported upon her departure from the company in May. According to Flutter Entertainment's SEC filing, Howe's exit package could reach $21.2 million, five times the initial estimate of $4.37 million.
Details of the Severance Package
The main difference comes from a Value Creation Plan (VCP) granted on October 4, 2021, which expires on October 4, 2026. Howe could receive $12.5 million through this plan. On a prorated basis, Flutter would pay Howe $11.47 million in cash because she left FanDuel before the full vesting date.
When adding this value to the initially disclosed severance of $4.37 million, the package totals $15.84 million, not counting $1 million in legal fees that Flutter paid on her behalf.
Impact and Reactions
The shares of FanDuel's parent company fell following her departure, implying that the timing of the agreement, when shares were valued higher, increased the total value of Howe's exit package. This could bring the total value to the estimated $21.2 million mentioned.
Controversy in the Exit
When Howe's departure was announced in May, it was speculated that she was turned into a "scapegoat" for the decline in the parent company's share price. It is unclear if Howe was indeed a scapegoat, as her exit agreement includes confidentiality and non-disparagement clauses.
"This obligation specifically prohibits, among other things, the use or disclosure of Confidential Information for the benefit of a competitor," according to the regulatory document.
The Future of Flutter Entertainment
With Howe's departure, investors may wonder about the exit terms for group CEO Peter Jackson. Flutter announced that Jackson will leave his position as CEO and board member on September 30, remaining as an advisor until the end of 2026.
Jackson will be succeeded on October 1 by Dan Taylor, the current CEO of Flutter's international division and group president. With Howe's potential exit package nearing $21 million, the scenario for Jackson could be equally impressive.
