Universal Targets Expansion of Okada Play Amid Losses at Okada Manila
Universal Entertainment Corp. to focus on mass market and online platform growth as Okada Manila reports revenue decline.

Universal Entertainment Corp., the operator of Okada Manila in the Philippines, is shifting its strategy to focus on expanding its mass market reach and the Okada Play online platform, following a challenging Q2 2026. Okada Manila's revenue fell by 13% year-on-year to $191 million, and its Adjusted EBITDA plunged 62.5% to $17.4 million, resulting in an operating loss of $8.7 million.
Economic Challenges and Strategic Shifts
Universal Entertainment faces a landscape of economic uncertainty, influenced by inflationary pressures, monetary tightening, and geopolitical tensions. These factors contribute to volatile commodity prices and slower global economic growth. In Japan, where signs of moderate recovery in employment and income exist, the company remains cautious due to external economic influences.
Okada Manila's Omnichannel Strategy
At Okada Manila, efforts have been made to diversify revenue through an omnichannel approach integrating both online and land-based gaming. This includes a collaboration with PhilWeb Corporation to launch Okada Play in May 2026, targeting the Philippine market's growing interest in online gaming. The strategy seeks to balance fluctuations in visitor numbers and attract new customer segments.
Expanding Profitability and Revenue Streams
To boost overall profitability, Universal Entertainment is investing in enhancing non-gaming revenue streams by hosting large-scale events at Okada Manila. The company continues to optimize costs and prioritize management resources strategically, despite increased expenses aligning with future growth plans. Recognition in two categories at the “Travel + Leisure Luxury Awards Asia Pacific 2026” showcases advancement in brand value.
Looking Forward
While expansion efforts face market challenges, Universal Entertainment is committed to strengthening its position through strategic investments and cost efficiencies. The company’s focus on Okada Play and the mass market aims to mitigate external economic pressures and ensure sustainable growth in the evolving gaming landscape of the Philippines.
