Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Introduces New Smoke-Free Casino Space

The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa will soon inaugurate a new smoke-free gaming area, marking a significant expansion to meet increasing customer demand for smokeless environments. This expansion responds directly to preferences for a playing environment free from secondhand smoke.

Expansion of Smoke-Free Areas

In June, Hard Rock International, a subsidiary of the Seminole Tribe of Florida, announced a plan to increase smoke-free areas at its Tampa location. Over 40% of the casino's slot machines will be located in these areas. Renovations are scheduled to begin in October, with the Hard Rock Event Center temporarily converted into a smoke-free gaming area to keep gaming options available.

Enhancements in Temporary Casino Facilities

While renovations are underway, the Hard Rock Event Center will host a temporary casino with 682 brand-new slot machines. These include popular titles such as Lightning 10 Year Storm, Dragon Link, and Monopoly. In addition, there will be 34 smoke-free live dealer table games including blackjack and roulette. The facility will operate 24/7, ensuring that gaming continues uninterrupted during renovations.

Renovation Plans and Customer Feedback

Feedback from patrons prompted this expansion, with Travis Lunn, president of Seminole Hard Rock Tampa, highlighting the commitment to providing diverse options and added comfort. The temporary Event Center casino enables continued access to a wide range of games while transformations occur.

Strategic Renovation Details

The renovation will cover areas including the stretch from the Elvis piano display to the Cipresso restaurant, converting them into permanent smoke-free zones. Existing equipment will receive a thorough cleaning, with new carpets, chairs, and ceiling treatments installed to enhance air quality.

The Broader Context: Decline in Smoking Rates

This development comes as the U.S. sees declining smoking rates. In April, the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health reported that less than 10% of U.S. adults are now regular smokers, a stark contrast to the mid-1960s when almost half of adults smoked.

The smoke-free initiative positions Seminole Hard Rock Tampa at the forefront of adapting to shifting consumer preferences, offering a modern and welcoming gaming atmosphere.
