EPT Barcelona Returns: Big Fields, Top Talent, and Fantasy Picks

The European Poker Tour's much-anticipated return to Barcelona kicks off this weekend at Casino Barcelona. Running until August 29, the event is known for drawing large fields and elite players. Participants vie for a top prize package worth $8,000 to the EPT Prague Main Event later this year.

EPT Barcelona's Prestige

As the oldest stop on the European Poker Tour, EPT Barcelona holds a special place in the poker world. It's renowned not just for its historical significance since 2004, but also for consistently producing the largest fields. The 2022 Main Event saw a record 2,294 entries, followed by the 2023 and 2025 events with 2,120 and 2,045 entries respectively. The event's appeal is bolstered by its location at Casino Barcelona in the heart of the city, surrounded by iconic sites such as the Sagrada Família and Barceloneta Beach.

Competitive Prizepools and More

Prizepools for the EPT Barcelona Main Events frequently exceed €9 million. This year, attendees can look forward to 79 events, ranging from the €330 buy-in to the €100,000 level, ensuring there's something for every poker enthusiast. Key events include the €1,650 PokerStars Open Main Event (August 16-22) and the €5,300 EPT Main Event (August 22-29). Players can enjoy a mix of games from no-limit hold’em to mixed game formats, providing opportunities for both recreational and high-stakes players.

Spotlight on Poker Talent

The festival attracts top players, including Jason Koon and PokerStars ambassador Ben 'Spraggy' Spragg. Expect to see high-caliber poker action with events featuring buy-ins of €10,000, €15,000, and more, drawing elite talents like Maria Konnikova and Sebastian Huber. Previous EPT Barcelona events have seen winners from around the globe, including Stephen Song from the USA in 2024, who took home $1.4 million.

Spain's Poker Summer

Spain has seen a vibrant summer, marked by a World Cup win in New Jersey and Adrian Mateos's $4.3 million victory in the WSOP $250K Super High Roller. As EPT Barcelona unfolds, local and international players will compete fiercely. Notable performers from last year's series included Jeremy Ausmus (USA) and Benny Glaser (UK).

Engage with PokerOrg’s Fantasy Challenge

This year, PokerOrg's Pick 3 fantasy contest returns. Members can select three players for the EPT Barcelona Main Event, with a chance to win an $8,000 package for the EPT Prague. This free contest is available to all Org members, and registration is simple.

With cards officially in the air starting Sunday noon, EPT Barcelona once again stands out as a must-attend event. For tournament players, its blend of competitive poker, stunning location, and vibrant atmosphere makes it an essential stop on the circuit.
