Finnish Businessman Lauri Saaskilahti Heads to WSOP Main Event Final

Lauri Saaskilahti, a Finnish businessman, is preparing for the WSOP Main Event final table, marking the first time a player from Finland has reached this stage. Set to hold the event next week, Saaskilahti aims to achieve his goal of winning the Main Event, a goal he set at the beginning of the year on his vision board.

A Fortunate Layover Leads to WSOP

Saaskilahti’s journey to the WSOP began unexpectedly during a business trip on the West Coast of the US last year. A layover in Los Angeles led him to Hustler Casino, where he won nearly $20,000 playing PLO $10/20/40. This unexpected win sparked the idea to return to the US, accompanying his family, and participate in the Main Event as part of his 40th birthday celebrations.

From Businessman to WSOP Contender

Despite his success at the table, Saaskilahti identifies as an amateur player who enjoys poker as a hobby. Having watched the World Poker Tour while studying, he played semi-professionally before choosing a professional career over a full-time poker path. This summer, with ample enthusiasm and some cash, he decided to enter the Main Event.

With the final table approaching, Saaskilahti is spending some time on vacation with his family. Not yet ready for the ESPN lights of the final table, he plans to conduct an in-depth analysis of his opponents’ cultural backgrounds and playing styles. Additionally, he intends to develop multiple game strategies, preparing for different scenarios that could occur.

Saaskilahti remains focused on achieving what he noted on his vision board: winning the WSOP Main Event. While enjoying his stay in America, alongside his family, the business-minded player balances preparation with leisure, staying true to his dual dedication to his career and love for poker.
