Anthropic to Support the FCA's Supercharged Sandbox

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) of the United Kingdom will be supported by Anthropic for its Supercharged Sandbox, specifically for the second phase of participating firms. This controlled environment allows companies to experiment with advanced artificial intelligence safely. Anthropic will provide access to tools such as Claude Code and Claude Cowork to accelerate participant development.

Boosting Innovation with AI

The FCA's Supercharged Sandbox is designed to facilitate safe experimentation with AI. The use cases explored in this phase include:

  • Secure payments sent by agents and trade
  • Effective fraud detection and economic crime
  • Strengthening AI governance and accountability
  • Expanding access to financial services for vulnerable consumers
  • Business automation and regulatory compliance

Participants and Selection Process

For this second phase, 21 organizations including Scottish Widows, Money Advice Trust, and TrueLayer will join the program. Demand has been high, experiencing a 51% increase in applications compared to the first phase.

Jessica Rusu, Director of Data, Intelligence and Information at the FCA, highlighted the importance of this safe environment to foster responsible AI innovation in the UK.

Infrastructure and Support

The FCA, along with NayaOne and NVIDIA, has provided advanced computing infrastructure to accelerate AI innovation. Companies will also have the opportunity to participate in the new Agentic Academy program, a 10-week initiative focused on AI, developed in collaboration with the Centre for Finance, Technology and Entrepreneurship (CFTE).

Additional participants in the second group include calQrisk, Merx Digital Solutions Ltd (SmartDrops), Aegis Trace, Sardine AI Corp, among others. This Supercharged Sandbox was announced by the FCA in 2025 as a safe space for AI experimentation.

Impact on Regulation

The FCA's approach is to support digital innovation without imposing additional regulations on AI, relying on existing frameworks. This strengthens the UK's position in the responsible adoption and utilization of technological advancements.
