Resorts World New York Expands by $5.5 Billion

Resorts World New York City continues to expand its operations with a $5.5 billion investment, starting with the opening of an expanded gaming area on the first floor featuring 1,400 slot machines. The groundbreaking ceremony for the second phase of the project will soon commence. This development comes less than three months after the casino became the first fully functional commercial casino in New York.

New Gaming Area Expansion

President of Genting Americas East, Robert DeSalvio, noted that the slots have been "extremely popular," generating $230 million in gross revenue in the first 11 weeks. The area also features the Dragon Den gaming hall with 114 titles from Aristocrat and 48 Dragon Link machines.

Resorts World Long-Term Plans

The final project includes a casino spanning 350,000 square feet with 6,000 slot machines and 800 table games, 2,000 hotel rooms, and a 7,000-seat entertainment venue. There are also plans for over 10 acres of public green space. Upon completion, this will become the largest casino in the U.S.

Resorts World has already invested over $5 billion into New York's education system since opening in 2011. Additionally, a $2.5 billion commitment to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and $2 billion for community development has been confirmed.

Growth of Table Game Revenue

The gaming area expansion coincided with the launch of table games on April 28. Initial results were unimpressive, but the revenue steadily increased, reaching over $10.4 million by July 12. Meanwhile, slot revenue remained stable at $20-$22 million.

Competing Projects

RWNYC received a casino license in December 2025 along with Bally’s Bronx and Metropolitan Park. The latter two projects have begun construction from the ground up. Bally’s purchased the site for $157 million and plans to open the casino in 2030. Metropolitan Park commenced preliminary work but faced delays that will not affect the planned timelines.
