Dominic Mansour Criticizes UK Tax Hikes as Investment Deterrent
Buzz Bingo CEO highlights impact of increased remote gaming duty and financial risk assessments on UK operations.

Buzz Bingo CEO Dominic Mansour has criticized the recent tax increases in the UK, arguing that they significantly hinder investment in the market. Speaking on the EGR Power Seat podcast, Mansour described the rise in remote gaming duty to 40% as "a big blow," which offset any advantage gained from the abolition of bingo duty in April.
Impact of Tax Increases
The hike in remote gaming duty has forced Buzz Bingo to rethink its UK investment strategy. According to Mansour, these changes have negatively impacted the company's financial plans, drawing a parallel with the Netherlands where similar tax policies decreased overall revenue. "It frustrates the hell out of me," Mansour expressed, underscoring how these regulatory moves are seen as counterproductive.
Financial Risk Assessments
Mansour also criticized the new financial risk assessments (FRAs), stating that they lead to inconsistent customer treatment. He questioned the rationale behind these decisions, which, according to him, overlook existing evidence. "It’s strange to think that intelligent, well-educated people are making decisions where they ignore evidence," he commented.
Customer Insights and Operational Challenges
In other discussions, Mansour emphasized the value of gathering insights directly from customers. Notably, player observations in Glasgow revealed that tablets were not lasting through full sessions, despite internal company data indicating otherwise. Mansour also recounted a significant Wi-Fi issue discovered across 92 clubs in Poole after customer complaints, which required costly repairs.
Strategic Adjustments
These insights illustrate the importance of on-the-ground feedback in refining operations and highlight areas where Buzz Bingo intends to focus its efforts despite regulatory challenges. As Mansour stated, "You’ve got to see it to believe it."
