FCA Launches Nationwide Car Finance Compensation Campaign

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has initiated a comprehensive UK-wide campaign to inform car finance customers about their right to claim compensation without incurring fees. Recent FCA research highlights that about 27% of these customers feel hesitant to proceed with claims without engaging a claims management company (CMC) or lawyer, despite free resources provided by the FCA.

"Many people who may be owed compensation aren’t sure where to start or don’t realise they don’t have to pay someone to make a complaint," stated Sheree Howard, Executive Director at the FCA. "Our free tools are there to help people feel claim confident – so they can get any money owed back without it costing them a penny."

Campaign Details

The campaign, which will be visible across multiple platforms such as TV, radio, print, billboards, and social media, aims to reassure and guide consumers. It will run until 6 September 2026 and directs individuals to a free template complaint letter available on the FCA website. According to a survey conducted by Kantar, over 80% of respondents stated this resource would boost their confidence in submitting complaints directly to lenders.

Media Reach and Impact

This advertising initiative, funded by a £2 million budget, is expected to make a significant impact, aiming to reach audiences countrywide. It will be broadcast nearly 11 million times on video-on-demand platforms, while over 2,180 outdoor ads and national radio spots will complement its reach. Print media with a collective circulation of around 3 million and social media, including Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, will also be leveraged.

Survey Findings

The FCA commissioned Kantar to conduct an online survey between June 25 and 28, 2026, targeting 1,000 UK adults aged 18 and older who currently hold or have previously held motor finance arrangements. Findings revealed that while 59% of customers have either made or are considering a claim, a noteworthy 23% remain uncertain about their options.

Supporting Consumers

To further assist, the FCA has also launched a redress scheme promising an expected £7.5 billion in compensation. However, this initiative faces partial suspension due to ongoing legal challenges, which the FCA intends to defend vigorously.

Overall, FCA’s national campaign aims to empower consumers with the knowledge and confidence to use available resources for submitting claims, avoiding unnecessary costs.
