Las Vegas Sands: The Impact of the World Cup on Revenues in Macau and Singapore

Las Vegas Sands reported a decline in revenue for the second quarter due to changes in customer spending patterns amid the World Cup and unusually low VIP retention rates in Macau's casinos. The net revenue was $3.15 billion compared to $3.18 billion for the same period last year. The operating profit was $618 million, down from $783 million in the previous year.

Impact of the World Cup on Revenues

The decline in company revenue is primarily related to a decrease in casino visits during the World Cup. Patrick Dumont, Chairman and CEO of the company, noted: "Despite the seasonal decline in tourist activity in Macau and Singapore, the number of visitors to our properties fell particularly significantly in June."

However, the revenues from mass gaming at Marina Bay Sands increased by five percent compared to the second quarter of 2025, highlighting the resilience of the business.

Financial Results and Outlook

The company demonstrated strong financial results despite seasonal fluctuations. Constant EBITDA at Marina Bay Sands was $689 million, although diminished player retention reduced this figure by $37 million. In Macau, EBITDA was $430 million, negatively affected by the performance of the VIP segment.

Patrick Dumont stated: "The measures we have taken to improve service levels and customer experience are already showing positive results. We have achieved significant growth in gaming volumes across all segments and continue to look confidently towards the future."

Future Prospects

Las Vegas Sands is confident that their focus on high levels of service and entertainment will continue to generate substantial revenue. The management expects this to provide significant returns to shareholders in the long term.

The company's commitment to growth is evident through the increase in gaming volumes, which have significantly outperformed overall market trends in Macau.
