Betsson Strengthens Its Position in Latin America

Latin America has become Betsson's largest market in the second quarter, making up 36% of the operator's revenue of €310.2 million. Regional revenue grew by 32% compared to last year, reaching €112 million. According to CEO Pontus Lindwall, the market showed "strong activity in both sports and casino," particularly in Argentina, Peru, and Colombia.

Betting on Latin America

Pontus Lindwall noted that the company initially did not set out to make Latin America its largest region, but investments here have proven justified due to good dynamics and growth potential. "We see more structural growth in Latin America than, say, in Western Europe," he said.

In the second quarter, revenue in the region amounted to €64.2 million, which corresponds to 21% of the group's total revenue, while revenues in the Northern European countries decreased by 17% due to cut marketing expenses in Sweden and Denmark.

M&A Strategy and New Opportunities

During the Q2 report, Pontus Lindwall spoke about the establishment of a new credit line of €75 million to finance future acquisitions. "Our strategy involves growth both organically and through acquisitions," he noted.

Historically, Betsson had made acquisitions that complemented its existing business and also acquired fully integrated companies in new markets.

Q2 Results

Despite strong financial performance supported by the World Cup, profit suffered due to decreased activity from one of the major clients in the B2B segment. The number of active B2C customers increased by 31.9% to 1,825,487 people.

Nevertheless, the total amount of deposits in B2C and B2B decreased by 7% to €1.38 billion. Gross profit fell by 8% compared to last year to €177.5 million, with a margin of 57.2%.

Technical Improvements and Innovations

Significant improvements were made to support the operator during the World Cup period. Betsson increased the capacity of its websites fivefold. Initial investments in AI were also implemented to enhance operational capabilities.

Pontus Lindwall expressed satisfaction with the technical performance of sports betting and reported that artificial intelligence is being applied in nearly all of the company's operational processes.
