Cirsa Expands Presence in Portugal with Acquisition of Casino Figueira
Cirsa enters the Portuguese land-based casino market by acquiring a controlling stake in Sociedade Figueira Praia, S.A., owner of Casino Figueira.

Cirsa has entered the Portuguese land-based casino market by acquiring a controlling stake in Sociedade Figueira Praia, S.A., the owner of Casino Figueira. This deal, announced on Monday, fully aligns with Cirsa's omni-channel strategy in Portugal and complements its online operator, CasinoPortugal, acquired in late 2024. Casino Figueira, located in Figueira da Foz, is considered by Cirsa to be one of the most historic casinos on the Iberian Peninsula and has held a gambling license since 1948. According to Cirsa, the transaction's multiple aligns with the company's previous acquisitions and will be financed by existing cash resources, which will not materially affect Cirsa's financial profile.
Important Milestone in European Expansion
Cirsa's CEO, Antonio Hostetler, stated that the acquisition represents a significant milestone in the company's business expansion strategy in Europe. "Casino Figueira is a landmark asset in the Portuguese entertainment industry with a strong track record and a management team possessing deep market knowledge," he noted. "This deal strengthens our presence in Portugal and represents a decisive step forward in our omni-channel growth strategy in Europe."
Strategy for Integrating Online and Retail Channels
Chairman of Cirsa, Joaquim Agut, pointed out that combined with the acquisition of CasinoPortugal, entry into the Portuguese land-based market will enhance the company’s ability to provide a fully integrated gaming and entertainment offering through both online and retail channels.
Aggressive M&A Strategy
Last week, Cirsa also entered the Paraguayan market by acquiring a controlling stake in the local online slot operator, Slots del Sol. In Latin America, Cirsa is already present in Peru through a partnership with Apuesta Total, as well as in Colombia via Sportium. In June 2025, Cirsa entered the Spanish stock exchanges, aiming to raise €400 million ($457.3 million), which will support the acceleration of its growth strategy and finance future M&A plans. As of June 2025, Cirsa has completed over 130 acquisitions since 2015.
Financial Results and Outlook
In the first quarter, the operator's revenue and profit reached €623 million and €194 million, respectively. The company attributes its robust performance to a "clearly defined strategy, very solid operational execution, and a strengthened financial position." Cirsa also stated that its strong results and liquidity will support the advancement of its growth plan, "including a possible acceleration of its corporate merger and acquisition activity in the coming months." Cirsa will publish its financial results for the second quarter of 2026 on July 30.
