Robbie Guest Appointed as NCAA Softball Rules Editor

Robbie Guest will officially become the NCAA secretary-rules editor for softball on September 1, 2027. With 21 years as a Division I softball umpire, he steps into the role following Vickie Van Kleeck's term, which concludes on August 31. Guest has a substantial umpiring background, highlighted by appearances at the Women's College World Series in 2023, 2024, and 2026.

Extensive Umpiring Experience

Guest's resume includes officiating 11 Division I regionals and eight super regionals. He has been a crew chief in major conferences such as the Southeastern, Atlantic Coast, and Big 12. Additionally, since 2022, Guest has actively participated in NCAA softball rules committee meetings, representing umpires.

Guest has played a crucial role in revising key NCAA documents, assisting in editing the Softball Rules Book and Case Book. His involvement didn't stop there; he chaired the Softball Umpire Program Mechanics Committee for three years, developing the Four-Umpire Mechanics System.

Commitment to Umpire Development

Beyond rule editing, Guest has committed to mentoring future umpires. His efforts include presenting and instructing at national camps, clinics, and virtual training events, providing valuable guidance and education to aspiring officials.

Dual Career Path

Apart from his umpiring career, Guest has also worked as an avionics engineer for over 30 years. He officiated five seasons of Athletes Unlimited Softball, further showcasing his dedication to the sport.

"Throughout my career, I've learned that trust is built through good judgment and the fair, consistent application of the rules," Guest said. "I'm excited for the opportunity to serve in this new leadership role as a steward of the rules, preserving the values that define NCAA softball while embracing the thoughtful changes necessary to support its incredible growth."

Guest expressed his eagerness to collaborate with coaches, student-athiles, administrators, media partners, and umpires to ensure clarity and consistency in rule application and interpretation.
