Robbie Guest named NCAA softball rules editor

Robbie Guest, known for his extensive career as a Division I softball umpire, will be the new NCAA softball rules editor starting September 1, 2027. He will succeed Vickie Van Kleeck, who finishes her term on August 31, 2027.

Experience in Umpiring

Guest has had a distinguished career, umpiring in the Women's College World Series in 2023, 2024, and 2026. His postseason experience includes 11 regionals and eight super regionals in Division I. He has been a crew chief in major conferences, including the Southeastern, Atlantic Coast, and Big 12. Since 2022, he has participated in meetings of the NCAA softball rules committee as a representative of umpires.

Contributions to Rule Development

Guest has made significant contributions to the sport, being part of the editing team for the NCAA Softball Rules Book and the Case Book. He led the Mechanics Committee of the Softball Umpires Program for three years, during which the Four Umpire Mechanics System was developed. Additionally, he has mentored many umpires, serving as a presenter and instructor at national camps, clinics, and virtual training events.

Professional Career and Vision

Robbie Guest has worked as an avionics engineer for over three decades and has also umpired for five seasons in Athletes Unlimited Softball. Regarding his new position, Guest commented:
