IGT to Close Electronic Table Division by 2027

International gaming giant International Game Technology (IGT) has confirmed it will close its Electronic Table Games (ETG) division by 2027. IGT representative Phil O'Shaughnessy stated that the decision aligns with the company's focus on its core business priorities and long-term growth objectives. He emphasized that the company "will continue to provide the level of support customers expect from ETG" throughout the transition period.

The ETG division, while smaller compared to the slot machine segment, has shown growth in recent years, featuring both systems and games. Offerings include blackjack, baccarat, and roulette in ETG formats. IGT also expanded its famous Wheel of Fortune brand into the ETG space, hoping that the brand will assist in boosting sector growth.

Major Changes at IGT

In 2024, IGT was acquired and merged with Everi Holdings in a $6.3 billion deal spearheaded by Apollo Global Management. As part of this deal, IGT's former lottery division was spun off into a separate publicly traded entity called Brightstar Lottery. Next in line is ETG, which serves as the next confirmation of Apollo's strategic changes.

Apollo partner Daniel Cohen addressed regulators in Nevada in June 2025, stating that the business is lagging behind main competitors such as Aristocrat and Light & Wonder. "The primary goal of our partnership is to create long-term value," Cohen told regulators. "Our long-term aim is to become the main supplier for operators like the Venetian or Caesars."

Challenges and Prospects for the ETG Market

Despite some successes, the ETG sector faces growth challenges primarily due to the significant amount of space required for gaming in casino floors. Typically, slots generate more revenue and take up less space, making the choice of ETG difficult for operators.

The ETG market is more popular in Europe and Asia than in the U.S. The market leader in ETGs, Interblock, which is also private-equity controlled, has long been discussed as a target for acquisition by Aristocrat, but the deal fell through over a $200 million price difference.

According to IGT's Vice President of Special Products and ETG, Luigi Cacciapouti, "we rewrote everything: every line of code, all new, and we are truly aiming to offer something that is both exciting for players and valuable for our customers."
